Strangely enough, although in real life I love talking about myself and hearing myself talked about, I’m horrible at writing “bio” pages. But some people wanted to know a little more about me than just what else I’ve written, so here I am.
As you might have figured out by now, I’m Tasha Fierce. No, “Fierce” is not my government name. I’m a 34 year old Black feminist cisgender woman and L.A. native. I first started writing about race, feminism, fatphobia, queerness, etc. when I was 16. At 17 I did a zine called Bitchcore, which you can find in the Rubenstein Library at Duke University and the Barnard College Zine Library, if you happen to be near those institutions and want to read it. I choose to use my writing not only to entertain, but also to raise awareness about social justice issues, educate, and foment positive change. I’ve kept some form of online journal since 1996. I didn’t really get into what y’all now call “blogging” until 2010, though.
I am an Aries, Taurus rising, Leo moon. Astrological descriptions of personalities are pretty much the only kind of “woo” I’m into. I consider myself an agnostic atheist. For those who are into the Myers-Briggs personality type thing, I’m an INTP.
FYI, I named this blog “Tastefully Ratchet” with the intention of participating in the reclaiming of the word “ratchet” when used an insult used against Black women, rejecting the politics of respectability, and showing solidarity with other self-described “ratchet feminists” out there.
I’m big into Twitter (well, I was until I deleted my account and recreated it, but that’s a story for another day). I tweet politics, sex, and random thoughts at @MissTashaFierce.
